Probation Review
[SHORTCODE_ELEMENTOR id="2061"]
After your first 3 months at OXO, you'll go through a probation review. This is an important checkpoint to assess how well you're settling into your role and whether you're on track to become a permanent member of the team.
What is a Probation Review?
A probation review is a structured evaluation that takes place after 90 days from the start of your probation period. It uses the same Role Scorecard tool from your pre-employment assessment to measure how well you're performing in your role and adapting to OXO's culture and expectations.
Important to know: While this review is not included in your official performance evaluation cycle, it directly affects whether you pass your probation period and become a confirmed employee at OXO.
Who Does This Apply To?
Probation reviews are conducted for all staff on probation, regardless of position level or department. Everyone goes through this process to ensure they're succeeding in their role.
The 4 Components of Probation Review
- Competency Assessment
We evaluate how well you've developed and applied the essential skills for your role over the past 3 months. This includes both technical skills (like using specific tools or systems) and behavioral skills (like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving).
Example: If you're in a sales role, we'll look at how you've applied your communication skills with clients, how you manage your pipeline, and how you collaborate with your team.
- Key Outcomes
During your probation period, you'll have specific key outcomes expected from your role. This component reviews whether you've made progress toward or achieved these outcomes. We understand you're still learning, so we look for effort, improvement, and results.
Think of this as checking: Are you moving in the right direction? Are you taking ownership of your work?
- Discipline & Conduct
We review how well you've followed OXO's policies, shown up reliably, and maintained professional standards. This includes attendance, punctuality, adherence to company guidelines, and how you conduct yourself with colleagues and clients.
Example: Have you been on time for meetings? Have you followed proper procedures? Have you treated others with respect?
- Role-Specific Requirements
Every role has specific requirements outlined in your Role Scorecard. This component checks whether you're fulfilling these unique expectations. These could include completing certain certifications, mastering specific systems, handling particular types of tasks, or demonstrating role-critical behaviors.
Example: A content writer might need to demonstrate they can produce 10 articles per month at required quality standards, while a property officer might need to show they can conduct property viewings independently.
What Happens During the Review?
Your manager will sit down with you to discuss your performance across all four components. This is a two-way conversation where you can:
- Share your experiences and challenges from your first 3 months
- Receive feedback on what you're doing well and where you can improve
- Ask questions about your role and expectations
- Understand clearly whether you're on track to pass your probation
Possible Outcomes
Based on your probation review, there are typically three possible outcomes:
- Pass Probation: You've met expectations and will be confirmed as a permanent employee
- Extended Probation: You're making progress but need more time to fully meet requirements (usually extended by 1-3 months)
- Probation Not Passed: Unfortunately, the role or OXO may not be the right fit, and employment may end
How to Succeed in Your Probation Review
Here are some tips to help you pass your probation period:
- Communicate regularly: Don't wait until day 90 to discuss concerns. Check in with your manager frequently
- Ask for help: If you're struggling with something, ask for support or clarification early
- Track your progress: Keep notes on your achievements and goals to show your growth
- Be proactive: Show initiative and ownership of your work
- Embrace feedback: Use any feedback you receive as an opportunity to improve
Remember: The probation period is a learning phase. We expect you to make some mistakes and ask questions. What matters most is that you're showing growth, taking ownership, and demonstrating that you can succeed in your role at OXO.
